British Embassy hosts Youth in Climate Action meeting

On May 24, young demonstrators from across the country gathered at Paseo Parque Villa Elisa to attend the “Youth for Climate” conference, which includes various training and events as part of the “Road to COP26” month.

The event took place with the support of the Municipality of Villa Elisa, the United Nations Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development in Paraguay, the Paraguayan Commission for Development Goals (SDGs), the World Agency for the environment, from the Development Program – to the Royal Assembly. Paraguay, UNICEF Paraguay, UNOPS, World Bank and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Paraguay, Defensores del Chaco Pypore and Junio   Verde.

The event began with a welcoming speech by Major Jorge Larroza of Villa Elisa. Other government officials and organizations provided brief information, including Ulises Lovera, chief executive of climate change; Sir. Mario Samaja, Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Paraguay; Mof. Ruth Vera, Commissioner for Sustainable Development Goals in Paraguay; and Mr. Rodrigo Arias, organizer of the Defensores del Chaco Pypore. Miss Universe Paraguay Nadia Ferreira and Ñemby’s longtime rival Carlos González are MCs. Some of the most prominent guests at the Congress were José Rodríguez; the Permanent Representative of the United Nations in Paraguay, Ms. Silvia Morimoto; and Ms. WWF National Director Ms. Lucie Aquino.

British Ambassador to Paraguay Ramin Navai also addressed young people in recognition of their commitment to climate change and their interest in the Sustainable Development Goals. Elsewhere, a Navai spokesperson said:

25% of you see tools, XXII. There is no head of state or I see it. He will come your future.

You need to participate in this debate and governments want to listen to you.

After the start, the Municipality of Villa Elisa announced the SDG walk. Subsequently, enthusiastic young people and many representatives gathered to launch the flagship project “Sustainable Paraguay at COP26”. The day ended with a youth training sponsored by WWF and Defensores del Chaco Pypore.

Month “Do COP26”

This year took place at the 26th Conference of the Parties, the prestigious COP26 in Glasgow. The UK, in cooperation with Italy, has chaired the General Assembly and is working with all countries to reach an agreement on climate change.

Following COP26, the British Embassy in Asuncion hosted events and programs on climate change, as well as a stable future throughout the year, and is featured on the “Road to COP26”.

The Nauvoo representative decided on the importance of climate cohesion by describing the most frequently cited texts:

“We don’t want a better environment: we need billions of people with environmental disabilities who change the weather every day.”
