Companies, executives donated nearly $300,000 to Manchin’s campaign after he rejected Biden’s Build Back Better bill

Senator Joe Manchin’s campaign run-off election raised $ 300 billion from Build Back political committees and officials a day after the Conservative Democrat announced it would oppose President Joe Biden’s $ 170 billion in social and climate spending, according to Federal file analysis.

Some of the officials who sponsored his campaign also assisted in the political activities of Republican leaders, including former president Donald Trump.

Manchin is expected to be re-elected in 2024. His campaign raised just over $ 1.5 million in the fourth quarter, ending a term with more than $ 6 million in hand. The Manchin campaign has never raised that much money in the October-December quarter, according to campaign fund experts.

More than $ 280,000 from PAC companies and powerful donors came after Manchin announced on Fox News on December 19 that he would not support the big bid for Biden, known as Build Back Better.

Manchin, who represents West Virginia, has a special vote in the Senate, which is divided into 55 between the two parties. This made him and his political career a magnet for business leaders and interested groups.

Following his announcement last month that he would not vote in support of the Biden Build Back Better program, records show that his campaign received donations from companies such as Facebook (now Meta), CVS Health, Lowe’s, Anthem, Swan, Boston Science. , Cheniere Energy, and Emergent BioSolutions. The donations ranged from $ 1,500 to $ 5,000.

The Manchin campaign also received personal donations from leading executives after a dramatic closing of Build Back Better, including $ 5,800 from Republican mega-donor and Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone. The pair also offered hope to Manchin’s PAC, called Country Roads. Langone once supported Mr. Trump when he contested in 2016 and backed the economic plan of the former president.

Real estate mogul Richard LeFrak, a major contributor to the Trump and Republican nominees, donated $ 5,800 to the Manchin election campaign after opposing the Reconstruction Act. LeFrak’s sons, Harrison and James, who donated large sums of money to Democrats and Republicans, joined to donate more than $ 10,000 to the Manchin campaign.

David Fischer, Trump’s successor who also served as the then vice president of Morocco, gave Manchin $ 5,800 on December 20. Other donors who donated money to GOP campaigns and gave Manchin a chance to vote again last year include real-estate Titan John Cushman. III, veteran lobbyist Catherine Finley, health manager Robert Patricelli and Joel Myers, CEO of AccuWeather.

With just one month to go before Manchin takes office, Langone is the new senator. Langone also said he wanted to hold a Conservative Democrat fundraising conference.

“I don’t see any leadership in this country. I thank God for Joe Manchin,” Langone said at the time. “I’m going to have one of the biggest fundraisers I’ve ever made for him. He’s important. He’s important. He’s a great American,” he added.

Manchin representatives did not return emails seeking answers.
